Must-Have Mini CAL - Apple

“An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” Red or green, what’s the apple you always go for at the market?

Whether you go for red or green, the pattern is identical, but you’ll definitely want to take a bite of these tasty apples. This is also a personal favorite of mine. The red apple reminds me of Snow White. Do you also see it?

Apples
Colors: 030 Red Wine, 083 Peridot, 087 Amazon and 007 Cigar

Make a mr using 030 and sc 6 in the mr.
Round 1: sc 6 around
Round 2: *sc 2 in every st* x 6 (12)
Round 3: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (18)
Bring the cast on tail to the outside through the middle of the mr – to the right side of your work.
Round 4: *sc 2, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (24)
Round 5: *sc 3, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (30)
Round 6: *sc 4, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (36)
Round 7 and 8: sc 36 around
Round 9: *sc 4, sc2tog* x 6 (30)
Round 10, 11 and 12: sc 30 around
Round 13: *sc 3, sc2tog* x 6 (24)
Round 14, 15 and 16: sc 24 around
Round 17: *sc 2, sc2tog* x 6 (18)
Round 18: *sc 1, sc2tog* x 6 (12)
Round 19: *sc2tog* x 6 (6)
Fasten off with a sl st and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
Baste the yarn through the outer loops (6) of the last round and pull the yarn downwards through the apple, through the middle of these 6 sts. Pull the yarn through the middle of the mr. Pull tight to create a little ‘indent’ at the bottom of the apple. Next, tie a knot with the cast on tail, pull tight again to create a little ‘indent’ at the top of the apple as well. This will give the apple its proper shape. Tie an extra knot and weave in all ends.
Leaf
Ch 9 using 087.
Work around the foundation chain in the front loops.
Dc 2 in the same st in 3rd ch from hook, tr 2 in next st, dc 1 2x, hdc 1, sc 1, sl st 1.
Work along the other side of the foundation chain,
Sl st 1, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1 2x, tr 2 in the same st, dc 2 in next st, join with a sl st on top of 3rd ch.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to attach the leaf to the apple later.

Stem
Ch 5 using 007.
Sl st 1 in every st, starting in 2nd ch from hook (4)
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to attach the stem to the apple later.

Attach the stem and the leaf on top of the apple with a tiny stitch and a knot. Weave in all ends.

Make another apple using 083. Make a stem, but don’t add a leaf.

You can use up colors 030 Red Wine and 083 Peridot, we won’t be needing those later on in the CAL.
We will be using 087 Amazon and 007 Cigar later. Make sure you have enough yarn left in those colors.
